What actually drives usage in DayZ

In DayZ the weight comes from mods and persistence. The server keeps the state of every object on the map in memory (the central economy), so large packs like DayZ Expansion multiply usage regardless of how many people are connected.

Common DayZ problems and how to fix them

1Players lose their bases or loot

That's persistence. Check scheduled restarts don't collide with the save, and that `storeHouseStateDisabled` is set the way you want in serverDZ.cfg.

2Server won't start after adding a mod

Almost always a missing dependency or a conflict between mods. Add them one at a time and read the boot log: DayZ names the specific failing mod.

3Loot doesn't spawn where it should

It's controlled in types.xml and the central economy files. After editing them you need to wipe the persistence folder or wait for the next cycle for changes to apply.

DayZ frequently asked questions

Can I use Steam Workshop mods?

Yes. Add mods by ID from the panel and they download, install and update themselves. You can also manage them manually over FTP.

How many slots do I need for DayZ?

For playing with friends, 20 slots is plenty. Community servers usually run 40-60, and large public ones 100. Heavy mods noticeably increase RAM usage.

Can I edit loot and the economy?

Yes, you get full access to types.xml and the rest of the central economy files, editable from the panel or over FTP.
