What this ping test measures and why it matters
The ping you see here is the real round-trip time from your connection to each of our data centres, measured from your browser. It is not a distance estimate: it goes through your ISP, its routes and the same nodes your server traffic would use.
In games like FiveM or Rust, latency matters more than raw power. A huge server at 90 ms plays worse than a modest one at 20 ms, because every action takes longer to confirm. So the first thing when choosing a location is where your players are, not where you are.
How to read the result
- 1Wait for every location to finish: the first measurement usually comes out high because it includes DNS resolution and connection setup.
- 2Look at the fastest location, but also at stability. A steady 35 ms is better than one bouncing between 20 and 80.
- 3Run the test at peak time, in the evening, when your ISP's network is busiest and when your users will actually be playing.
Frequently asked questions
- What ping is good for gaming?
- Below 30 ms you notice nothing. Between 30 and 60 ms it plays perfectly. From 80 ms you start to feel delay in shots and vehicles, and above 120 ms the experience genuinely suffers.
- Why is my in-game ping different?
- This test runs over HTTP from the browser and adds a few milliseconds of overhead. In-game ping is usually similar or slightly lower. What matters is the comparison between locations, not the absolute number.
- Does Wi-Fi affect it?
- Far more than people expect. Wi-Fi adds between 5 and 30 ms and, worse, adds it unevenly. To compete or to measure seriously, test on a cable.
- Where do I host if my players are spread out?
- Where the majority is, and if the community is Spanish or southern European, Madrid wins almost every time. For a mixed Europe-Latin America audience, Miami is usually the best compromise.
