How FiveM server resources are calculated

A FiveM server does not spread work across every core: the main thread runs most resources and player events. That is why a CPU with fewer but faster cores beats one with many slow cores, and why this calculator weighs clock speed more heavily than the number of vCores.

Memory grows for a different reason: every loaded script, every add-on vehicle and every MLO stays in RAM for as long as the server is up. A roleplay server with 300 resources and car packs can need more memory than a nearly empty 128-slot one, even with half the players online.

How to use the calculator

  1. 1Pick the server type and the slots you will actually open, not the ones you would like to fill: sizing for 128 when 40 people join only makes the bill bigger.
  2. 2Enter how many resources you have in resmon and tick the add-ons you use (vehicles, maps, MySQL, PMA-Voice). Those are what add the most memory.
  3. 3Compare the result with our plans. If you land between two, take the larger one: usage grows with the server, never the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a 64-slot FiveM server need?
A normal 64-slot roleplay with around 200 resources sits between 6 and 8 GB. With add-on car packs and several MLOs, count on 12 GB or more: assets load into memory and are not released while the server is up.
Why does clock speed matter more than core count?
Because the FXServer main thread is what runs resources and network events. If that thread saturates, spare cores do not help: the tickrate drops and you get stutter. That is why we run AMD Ryzen and Intel Core rather than many-core, low-clock server CPUs.
Do custom vehicles use a lot?
Yes, and it is the most common mistake. Every car pack adds models and textures that stay resident in memory. A big pack can add 1-2 GB on its own, and it also makes the initial download longer for players.
Do I need an NVMe disk?
You notice it, especially at startup and with the resource cache. During play the disk is rarely the bottleneck, but it is when booting the server, running backups and on MySQL queries if you have a large database.
