What actually drives usage in Project Zomboid

In Project Zomboid usage is determined by how much map has been explored, not by players. The server keeps loaded every cell someone has visited, so a months-old save with the map covered weighs far more than a fresh one with the same group.

Common Project Zomboid problems and how to fix them

1The server degrades week after week

It's the build-up of explored cells and items on the ground. Enable automatic item cleanup and consider resetting the map seasonally, the way wipes work.

2Mods don't load for players

Workshop IDs and mod IDs are different things and both must be in the configuration. If either is missing the server boots but the mod isn't applied.

3Players spawn in the wrong place when reconnecting

A known coordinate-sync issue. It usually clears after a clean server restart; keep backups in case you need to restore.
